Top 11 Most Valuable Department 56 Buildings (Overall)
1. Cathedral Church – Original Snow Village

- ESTIMATED VALUE: $1500-$2500
- Year Released: 1980 / Retired: 1981
- Original MSRP: $36
- Notes: This is the rarest of all church designs, inspired by St. Paul Cathedral in St. Paul, MN. Some of the buildings may have felt glued onto the bottom, which was added at the factory to cover up chips and cracks.
2. Adobe House – Original Snow Village

- ESTIMATED VALUE: $1500-$2000
- Year Released: 1979 / Retired: 1980
- Original MSRP: $18
- Notes: This is one of the rarest buildings in the Original Snow Village series. Some of the buildings may have fingerprints that occurred during production. This is a southwestern design with no snow, and a fun foreshadowing of the newest Department 56 core village series, Christmas Canyon.
3. Mobile Home – Original Snow Village

- ESTIMATED VALUE: $1000-$1500
- Year Released: 1979 / Retired: 1980
- Original MSRP: $18
- Notes: Designed to look like an Airstream trailer from the 70s, this is one of the rarest pieces in the entire Original Snow Valley collection. Issues with paint adhering well and streaking forced this piece into early retirement. Look for an intact trailer hitch for the highest value.
4. Mission Church – Original Snow Village

- ESTIMATED VALUE: $1000-$1350
- Year Released: 1979 / Retired: 1980
- Original MSRP: $30
- Notes: This is one of the rarest buildings in the Original Snow Village series. Some of the buildings may have fingerprints that occurred during production. This is a southwestern design with no snow, and a fun foreshadowing of the newest Department 56 core village series, Christmas Canyon.
5. Dickens Village Mill – Dickens

- ESTIMATED VALUE: $1000-$3000
- Year Released: 1985 / Retired: 1986
- Original MSRP: $35
- Notes: This is the first numbered limited edition of 2,500 and the first building of the “Big 3.” There is a big range on estimated market value because there is a big gap between appraised value and what it is selling for in market. However, either way you look at it, this is still a very valuable village building.
6. Norman Church – Dickens Village

- ESTIMATED VALUE: $800-$1400
- Year Released: 1986 / Retired: 1988
- Original MSRP: $40
- Notes: This is the second numbered limited edition of 2,500 and the second building of the “Big 3.” There is a significant range in estimated market value because of a substantial gap between the appraised value and the price it is selling for on the market. However, either way you look at it, this is still a very valuable village building.

I came across what I am sure is a very early D-56 house but am unable to identify it. It is very similar to the Mountain Lodge (of which one is in my possession). However, it does not have skis & no indication they have been broken off, the door is in a different location and some other variations. I live in Virginia suburbs of Washington DC. Can you direct me to an expert collector in the area that might be able to provide me with additional information regarding my find. Thanks
Hello! If you have a picture you would be willing to share you can send it to iheartyouchristmas@gmail.com and I can see what I can find out. Otherwise I might reach or to Department 56 directly or someone at Village D-lights (https://www.villaged-lights.com/) and see what they can tell you.
